Smoking materials were the cause of a fire in a second floor apartment at the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio property May 5.
An upholstered chair was damaged in the fire, and one person treated for smoke inhalation, Fire Chief William Bell said. The chair was not a Wright piece.
The second-floor apartment is located above the gift shop at the Home and Studio, 947-951 Chicago Ave., Bell said.
According to police reports, a call about the fire arrived at about 7:15 p.m. A passer-by saw light smoke coming out of a second-floor window, Bell said.
"That was the only thing, the chair itself" that was damage, he said. Firefighters put the chair out using an extinguisher.
"The firefighters said there was no smoke damage," Bell said. "It was just a little bit of light smoke. Fortunately, it was as nice day and the windows were open."
Damage is estimated at $250, Bell said.
